Dr. Julian E. Beesley, Partner
After 22 years’ scientific experience in the pharmaceutical industry and 8 years commercialising two pathology-based US biotech companies throughout the EU, USA and Japan, Julian Beesley founded Apis BBI a biotechnology consulting company advising biotechs both in developing their scientific strategy and in introducing their technology to the pharmaceutical industry. Apis BBI operates throughout the EU, USA, India and Japan.

He is also a Founding Director of Business Development and Scientific Specialist for AnaBioCardia.

Prior to founding Apis BBI, he participated in a wide range of research activities typical of a large pharmaceutical company, ranging through cell biology, respiratory, cardiovascular, virology, bacteriology, oncology and CNS at GlaxoWellcome UK. He was responsible for developing the global GlaxoWellcome human tissue bank and associated tissue localization studies, in a drive to move away from animal models towards a more effective drug discovery process.

Dr. Beesley has published widely - 107 publications, 4 books, 51 abstracts - and has given 153 presentations at major scientific and technical meetings. He has been active in many scientific journals, not only as a referee, but also playing an active role - among others, being a member of the Editorial Executive Committee, Histochemical Journal. He was a member of the council of the Royal Microscopical Society.

He holds a B.Sc. from the University of Nottingham and a Ph.D. from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Prior to joining Wellcome he held postdoctoral positions in St George’s Hospital, London and The Babraham Institute, Cambridge, during which time he obtained the Diploma of the Royal Microscopical Society.
